Kevin Thelwell hits jackpot with Rangers signing who ‘cannot fail’ at Ibrox

Rangers director Kevin Thelwell has come under scrutiny since his appointment, with several questionable decisions made so far.

Thelwell joined from Everton to become sporting director and one of the key figureheads in Rangers’ new era under new ownership.

However, Rangers’ woeful start to the season under Russell Martin has led to criticism of his appointment, but Thelwell reportedly threatened to leave if Martin was sacked.

Rangers brought in a lot of new signings under Thelwell, but while some have already disappointed, there is one who appears destined to succeed at Ibrox.

Billy Dodds hails Bojan Miovski signing

Rangers lost strikers Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane late on in the transfer window, and the pair scored 45 goals between them in all competitions last season.

However, they were able to sign former Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski from Girona in the final days of the window, in a signing which could prove to be a masterclass.

Billy Dodds, who was on the coaching staff under Barry Ferguson last year, has now told the Daily Record that Miovski is a signing who cannot fail, and hailed the decision to bring him in.

“Miovski has got the right attitude for Rangers, along with everything else,” Dodds stated.

“We would probably have had a nibble at him, but we never got the chance. His characteristics fit in perfectly at Rangers.

“Then, whether it’s workrate, technical ability, desire, attitude, chasing the ball, getting into goalscoring positions, holding the ball up, running in behind. They are all there.

“I don’t see how he can fail – as long as Rangers are playing well and he’s getting the supply. He’ll probably be thinking: ‘I could score a right few goals here’.

“I think he will be a really good signing.”

Bojan Miovski can ease pressure on Youssef Chermiti

Rangers raised eyebrows when they signed Youssef Chermiti from Everton for a record summer transfer fee, with Thelwell recruiting the striker from his old club.

The 21-year-old will need time to settle at Ibrox, but he may not be afforded much patience given Rangers’ need for goals.

This is where Miovski can be particularly useful, as an experienced striker who has excelled in Scottish football before.

The centre-forward can start for the foreseeable future and lead the line, with Chermiti allowed to ease in, and Miovski should provide the goal threat which was missing at the start of this season.
