Rangers fans will rage at Derek Ferguson admission on Russell Martin future
Russell Martin would’ve already been on his way out of Rangers had fans had their way at Ibrox.
With the Gers getting off to their worst start in the league in 42 years after drawing four consecutive games in the William Hill Premiership, the Scottish manager seems to be on thin ice in G51.
Kevin Thelwell has admitted things need to change at Ibrox, and the 39-year-old head coach will be expected to get some positive results in the coming fixtures.
Losing 6-0 to Club Brugge didn’t help Martin’s cause, with away fans in the Jan Breydel Stadium demanding his dismissal after witnessing their joint worst defeat in Europe with the 9-1 aggregate scoreline, but supporters may have to bear the Scottish manager for some time.

Russell Martin to be given until end of season at Rangers
Martin could be backed by the Gers’ new owners until the end of the season, Derek Ferguson says.
The former Light Blues midfielder believes Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises will give the Scottish manager time to implement his ideas at Ibrox.
With fans already calling for the ex-Southampton boss’ sacking, there will undoubtedly be concerns and rage in the terraces in G51 if he’s allowed to continue for much longer without any signs of improvement.
Speaking on Open Goal on 4 September, Gordon Dalziel asked: “Do you think Martin will get backed till the end of the season?”
Ferguson responded: “I think because the owners got him in. I think they will stick with him.”

Hearts fixture a must-win for Russell Martin
Thelwell reportedly threatened to quit if Martin was sacked, but fans will want to see better performances to reflect the sporting director’s faith in him.
Despite the draw against Celtic in the Old Firm derby on 31 August, the display was arguably nothing to write home about.
The US consortium have undoubtedly backed the Scottish manager after a circa £20million net spend, and that has to translate on the pitch now.
- Martin has a 27 per cent win rate at the Gers.
- The Scottish manager has won just three of his 11 games in charge at the Light Blues.
- The Bears have conceded 17 goals this season.
Martin seems to be nowhere from Rangers for now, but supporters will only get frustrated and agitated with a lack of development after the international break.
The Gers face Hearts in the William Hill Premiership at home on 13 September, and nothing but a win should suffice.
A loss against Derek McInnes’ team will undoubtedly make the ex-Saints boss’ tenure untenable at Ibrox, and maybe the new owners should already be looking for a replacement.
