‘Thank God’ – Hamza Igamane makes stark admission after Rangers exit

Hamza Igamane got the move away from Rangers he was looking for late in the summer transfer window.

Igamane joined Ligue 1 side Lille from Rangers last Friday in a deal worth a reported £10.5million.

Morocco international Igamane missed a number of Rangers games through injury, but he was well enough to make his Lille debut at the weekend.

Indeed, Igamane scored twice for Lille in Saturday’s 7-1 win over Lorient in a display that would have no doubt hurt Rangers fans.

And Igamane, 22, has now spoken out for the first time about his decision to swap Rangers for Lille.

Hamza Igamane believes Ligue 1 and Lille is ‘best’ place for him

On the back of netting a brace for Lille at the weekend, Igamane is now on international duty with the Morocco national side.

The forward was inevitably asked about the recent transfer saga, in which he spoke openly about wanting to join a team and league where he believes he can thrive.

“First of all, thank God, I managed to make a good transfer,” he told reporters. “I am very happy that my transfer has come to fruition under the best possible conditions.

“I joined a French club that helps young talents to develop, so that they can be in the best environment.

“I have joined Ligue 1, a championship renowned for helping young players progress and give the best of themselves.

“I thank the Moroccan supporters and my teammates in the national team. They have supported me a lot in this important stage of my career.”

Igamane’s comments will no doubt anger many Rangers fans, who will rightly feel the attacker was given the best conditions to thrive at Ibrox.

Rangers must now move on from Hamza Igamane saga

Igamane’s future dominated the gossip columns throughout the summer, with the saga ultimately ending the way everyone expected – the player to leave Ibrox.

Throw into the mix Cyriel Dessers’ move to Panathinaikos and it makes for a new-look attack at Ibrox going forward.

Russell Martin is a man under deep pressure already and will need his new signings, not least Youssef Chermiti, to hit the ground running.

Igamane is already thriving in France, but hopefully the same will be true of Rangers now the window has closed.
