Rangers perfect XI as transfer window closes — Youssef Chermiti straight in, no room for £4m signing

Russell Martin may be spoilt for choice at Rangers after some major investment from Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises in the summer transfer window.

The Scottish manager hasn’t had the best of starts to life at the Gers, winning just three of his first 11 matches in charge.

With Hamza Igamane joining LOSC Lille and Cyriel Dessers moving to Panathinaikos on deadline day, the Light Blues certainly needed to invest in their attack.

Youssef Chermiti was signed at Ibrox for £10million, including add-ons, with Derek Cornelius becoming the 13th addition to the team on 1 September, and it will definitely be interesting to see how Martin will line up in the coming matches.

Thelo Aasgaard has no place in perfect Rangers starting lineup

Considering the amount that has been spent on bringing Chermiti to the Gers, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him be the first-choice number nine this season.

Left-footed Cornelius should also slot straight into the backline to form a balanced partnership with John Souttar in defence, with James Tavernier and Jayden Meghoma as full-backs.

In the midfield, Martin needs to settle his differences with Nicolas Raskin and pick him alongside Mohamed Diomande and Lyall Cameron.

As a result, Thelo Aasgaard could potentially find himself on the bench more often than not, with the former Luton Town playmaker, who could cost around £4m with add-ons, failing to make a mark so far.

While Miovski will certainly be hoping for consistent game time, the Scottish manager’s system may not be able to incorporate him.

Oliver Antman will surely be on the right-wing, while Djedi Gassama has certainly cemented his place in the starting lineup on the left side of attack.

Russell Martin doesn’t have long to save Ibrox job

Martin’s sacking at Ibrox feels inevitable, with the fans already turning on him after what they’ve seen at the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

Rangers have gotten off to their worst start in the league in 42 years after drawing the first four games of the season, rightfully leading to questions about the Scottish manager’s future.

The Glaswegian outfit face Hearts on 13 September after returning from the international break, followed by Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup and Genk in the Europa League.

With some massive fixtures ahead, the Scottish manager should look to field his best players if he wants to survive at Ibrox.
