Kevin Thelwell puts heat on Russell Martin at Rangers after Andrew Cavenagh claim
Russell Martin may be losing support among the Rangers hierarchy after a poor start to the season at Ibrox.
The Gers have gotten off to their worst league start in 42 years after drawing four consecutive games in the William Hill Premiership.
In the Old Firm derby against Celtic on 31 August, the Light Blues weren’t much better, and the drab affair didn’t convince many fans.
Martin’s future at Ibrox is now uncertain, with Kevin Thelwell admitting that things need to change quickly in G51.

Andrew Cavenagh may be putting heat on Kevin Thelwell at Rangers
Thelwell may have felt obliged to do a question-and-answer session with the Gers’ internal media, as he may be starting to feel the heat, Keith Jackson says.
The Daily Record journalist suggests that Cavenagh could potentially be putting pressure on the sporting director, who, in turn, is making demands of Martin at Ibrox.
Jackson feels Thelwell needs to take responsibility for the Glaswegian outfit’s failures at the start of the season, and the situation will certainly be one to keep an eye on.
Speaking on Hotline Live on 3 September, the journalist said: “Thelwell has felt obliged to do a Q&A with the club’s own internal media. That tells you he’s starting to feel the heat, and rightly so, because he can’t be given a free pass on any of this. He was heading up the recruitment process along with Gretar Steinsson.
“He has put his name to every single signing that has walked through the door and photobombed them in Auchenhowie. He needs to take responsibility. You wonder whether Cavenagh is putting heat on him, and his reaction to that is to put heat on Martin.”

Russell Martin doesn’t have long left at Ibrox
Martin’s reputation at Ibrox is at an all-time low, with the away fans calling for his dismissal during the 6-0 loss against Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
The fans have already had enough of the Scottish manager’s style of play at the Light Blues and want to see a change in the dugout.
With the Glaswegian outfit set to face Hearts after the international break on 13 September, failing to get three points may be another nail in the coffin for the former Southampton boss.
- Martin has won just three of his 11 games in charge of the Gers.
- The 9-1 defeat against Brugge matched the Light Blues’ joint worst loss in Europe.
- With over £20million spent in the transfer window, the manager will be expected to turn things around soon.
Cavenagh has to show mettle at Rangers and sack Martin if he can’t turn things around in the coming weeks, with games against Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup and Genk in the Europa League.
Things are only going to get more challenging for the Scottish manager after the international break, and it remains to be seen how long he can survive the sack in G51.
The ex-Saints boss could potentially find himself on the way out of Ibrox, with the situation already at its tipping point.
