Hugh Keevins outlines what Nicolas Raskin must do to get back into Rangers team
Rangers have managed to keep Nicolas Raskin on their books for now after speculation in the previous transfer window.
While some leagues can still sign players, the 11pm deadline in Scotland on 1 September means the Gers could potentially be reluctant to sell one of their most prized assets in the coming days.
Kevin Thelwell has suggested that he will speak with Raskin after the international break, with signs of a falling out with the new management.
Russell Martin’s team selection against Celtic on 31 August hinted at an issue with the Belgium international, who was left out of the squad, but things are expected to change soon.

Nicolas Raskin needs to realise Russell Martin is manager at Rangers
Raskin needs to tone down his attitude to get back into the Gers’ team, Hugh Keevins says.
The veteran Scottish broadcaster believes it would be best for the 24-year-old to sit down with Martin and come to some sort of agreement.
Once the Belgian national will realise the Scottish manager’s status in the dressing room, he could potentially get back into the plans at Ibrox.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on 3 September, Keevins said: “First of all, he’s one of, if not the best player that Rangers have, so the sooner he and Martin sit down in a room… And it’s agreed that a dressing room is part of the workplace, and Martin is the gaffer in the workplace.
“So Raskin will just have to learn to tone down his gobbiness, and then he’ll come back into the team. All will be well. He’ll look to get into the Belgium World Cup squad, etc. And then his contract will be decided at a later date.”

Kevin Thelwell can’t sell Nicolas Raskin to please Russell Martin
Martin’s tenure at Ibrox seems untenable right now, with fans calling for his dismissal 11 games into the season.
The former Southampton boss has failed to show that he’s the right person to lead the Gers under the ownership of Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises.
With just three wins and consistently poor performances under the 39-year-old head coach, supporters can’t be blamed for already wanting to see a change in the dugout.
- Raskin joined the Gers for £1.32m in January 2023.
- The midfielder made 48 appearances for the Light Blues last season, providing 11 assists.
- The Belgian star’s current contract at Ibrox expires in 2027.
Raskin was linked with a move away from Rangers in the previous transfer window, with Crystal Palace and Wolves interested close to deadline day.
The midfielder has ended up staying at the Light Blues and has joined Rudi Garcia’s squad for the World Cup qualifiers.
It will be interesting to see how the Belgian star’s situation at Ibrox unfolds, but selling him due to an apparent disagreement with a manager whose future is uncertain wouldn’t have been sensible.
