Derek Cornelius reveals what Celtic star privately told him ahead of Rangers transfer
Rangers were extremely busy in the transfer window, signing 13 first team players.
Derek Cornelius joined Rangers from Marseille on a loan deal, as Russell Martin looked to improve the squad’s depth in defence.
Rangers are winless in their first four Scottish Premiership games, with Martin already facing immense pressure.
Cornelius has been welcomed to Scotland by a Celtic player who gave him some big advice.

Derek Cornelius speaks about Alistair Johnston’s advice
An article by the Daily Record reports how Celtic defender Johnston has welcomed his fellow Canadian to the Scottish Premiership.
Cornelius said: “He just gave me a little bit of insight on what to expect. We can be friends here in the international camp with Canada, but in Glasgow, we’re enemies. Like, don’t look at me.
“But it’s nice to know another Canadian is in the same city as you, even if he’s playing for the wrong club.”
Cornelius has made 35 caps for Canada, often playing alongside his Celtic rival.
The new Rangers star has had an usual career by growing as a player in multiple different countries.
- Javor (Serbia) – 2016 to 2019
- Vancouver Whitecaps (Canada) – 2019 to 2021
- Panetolikos (Greece) – 2021 to 2023
- Malmo (Sweden) – 2023 to 2024
- Marseille (France) – 2024/25
His varied experiences have shown that he is incredibly adaptable to whatever his playing environment may be, and advice from Johnston will only increase the chances that he settles into life at Ibrox successfully.

Russell Martin may not get the chance to integrate his signings
Cornelius is among many new arrivals that have been signed off by Martin, yet with his future looking bleak, only time will tell whether he can use them effectively.
Martin faces more calls to be sacked every day, and unrest has also been growing from his players too.
Martin has to repair relations with Nico Raskin after the midfielder failed to get his move away from the club, with Crystal Palace and Wolves interested in the 24-year-old.
Martin needs to re-establish relationships on and off the pitch, and with Kevin Thelwell being put under pressure to sack Martin, September looks to be a pivotal month for the short-term future of Rangers.
