Rangers face further backlash from fans after Ibrox announcement for Europa League campaign

Rangers fans are currently up in arms over performances on the pitch, and there may now be more fury at events off it.

Russell Martin has been rejected by the majority of the Rangers fanbase, with the manager greeted by heavy booing in recent games.

Rangers fans are also sceptical of some of the club’s business in the transfer market, with the jury out on some of the signings made this summer of heavy spending.

With Rangers out of the Champions League after being humiliated in the qualifying rounds, they will compete in the Europa League, but a controversial announcement has now been made for these fixtures.

Rangers raise ticket prices for Europa League matches

Rangers completed the signing of Youssef Chermiti for an initial £8million on deadline day, in what was the Ibrox club’s biggest transfer outlay since 2000.

Despite this spending as a result of increased investment and sales, Rangers have now raised ticket prices for their Europa League fixtures for the upcoming league phase games.

Adult tickets for the four upcoming games will cost between £42 and £47, depending on the location of the seats, a rise on the across-the-board £42 fee last year, and £40 the year before.

2023-24£40
2024-25£42
2025-26£42, £44 or £47

This new tiered pricing comes despite calls from the Rangers Fan Advisory Board to minimise tiered pricing and rises, and there is expected to be more backlash.

Rangers face fan backlash after ignoring fans again

The Rangers FAB statement highlighted the difficult financial burden on fans to follow the team through many Champions League qualifying rounds.

“We stressed the need to minimise the number of tiers and for prices not to be increased significantly and, where possible, in line with inflation,” they stated.

“As supporters, we are mindful of the financial demands that we’ve faced so far this season with tickets for friendlies, Champions League qualifiers and away fixtures in the Premiership.”

Rangers are only in the Europa League because of their failure against Club Brugge, and after one of their worst-ever starts to the domestic season, raised pricing for these games is laughable.

Some fans may not elect to attend Ibrox for these games given the prices and performance levels on display, and Rangers must consider price freezes in the future.
