Nico Raskin has issues to resolve with Rangers figure as loan exit falls through

Rangers had an incredibly busy transfer deadline day, as they look to change their fortunes under Russell Martin.

Nico Raskin’s future at Rangers was in doubt throughout the whole of the whole transfer window, but he will now remain at Ibrox for the next few months after the window shut late on 1 September.

Raskin was subject to interest from Crystal Palace and Wolves, as well as a whole host of other clubs, with Rangers demanding a significant fee.

Ultimately, though, no deal could be agreed for Raskin’s exit and he remains a Rangers player.

Nico Raskin and Russell Martin must ‘sort out matters between themselves’

An article by Belgian website HLN on 1 September claims that Raskin has internally raised the prospect of him leaving rangers several times.

It is claimed that there was interest in Raskin before the window shut, with Wolves indeed one of the sides in for him, but an arrangement could not be struck.

The report adds that Raskin now intends to resolve his problems with Martin when he returns from Belgium duty next week.

Raskin was left out of the Rangers squad against Celtic for the Old Firm derby, as the match finished 0-0, in a result that heaped further pressure on Rangers boss Martin.

Raskin’s father is one of those critical of Martin, after saying the Rangers manager ‘had too big of an ego’ in a now-deleted social media post.

With Raskin now away on international duty, Martin will hope to quash any problems between the pair as Rangers look to focus on their busy September schedule.

Raskin joined the club from Standard Liege in 2023 and has been one of Rangers’ key players in that timeframe.

Nico Raskin’s all-time stats for Rangers

The hard-working midfielder enjoyed a fine season for Rangers in 2024/25, and the Gers should be prepared to fend off interest for the 24-year-old in the January transfer window.

Nico Raskin looking for first international goal

Raskin is looking to score his first goal for his country, as he is currently away on international duty with Belgium.

Despite scoring twice for the U23 squad in 2023, he is yet to deliver for the senior team.

In spite of this, he has only made four caps but there’s a good chance he’ll get some minutes as Belgium take on Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan in their World Cup qualifiers.

Rangers fans will be hoping Raskin can achieve a career milestone and come back to Ibrox with a smile on his face.
