Rangers work to offload player before lining up late deal for ace who idolises Zinedine Zidane
Rangers are looking to sign a midfielder before the 11pm transfer deadline.
Russell Martin’s side have drawn their opening four Scottish Premiership games, with fans already demanding that Martin be sacked.
Although Nico Raskin is set to stay at Rangers, Martin still has his eyes set for one more midfielder.

Rangers have last-minute interest in former Sunderland midfielder Pierre Ekwah
L’Equipe reports that Rangers are interested in Saint-Etienne’s Pierre Ekwah, alongside Spanish club Levante.
However, Rangers will need to offload a player of their own before this deal could take place.
Having spent the 2024/25 on loan at Saint-Etienne, Ekwah left Sunderland for £6m to permanently join them earlier in the transfer window.
Despite this, Ekwah could very easily leave Saint-Etienne following the club’s relegation to the second tier in France.
The 23-year-old has had quite a unique journey through the English youth system, before eventually making his breakthrough at Sunderland.
- Chelsea (2018 – 2020)
- West Ham (2020-2023)
- Sunderland (2023 – 2024)
- Saint Etienne (2024 – now)
In 2021, prior to his move to Sunderland, he spoke about who he idolised, and how he plays football.
He said: “I like creative players, and players who break things up as well. I’m a ball player as well, so that’s the position I really enjoy playing in.
“I would say, because I’m French, Zinedine Zidane [was my idol]! He was my guy. [I also like] Kaka, Andrea Pirlo and Claude Makelele.”
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Ekwah has also enjoyed stints at centre-back in his career, proving that he can be versatile when called upon.
Rangers fans will be crying out for change at the club and Ekwah could help lift the mood at Ibrox.

Pierre Ekwah’s reliability is a huge positive for Rangers
One of the huge positive surrounding Ekwah is his constant availability for his club.
He has never suffered from any serious fitness issues, and he has played 73 matches in the last two seasons.
Ekwah was a key part of Sunderland’s busy 2023/24 Championship season, but he was loaned out before their promotion to the Premier League
As Rangers go into the Europa League, they’ll have to contend with the Thursday/Sunday schedule, and Ekwah’s dependability will be a huge plus for nay team that manages him.
