Derek Cornelius rushed out of Auchenhowie without Rangers transfer announcement – Here’s why

Rangers are yet to announce any new arrivals on transfer deadline day.

Derek Cornelius and Youssef Chermiti’s Rangers deals are done. However, no official confirmation has been made by the Ibrox giants.

Cornelius and Chermiti have both been in Auchenhowie to formalise their deadline day moves to Rangers.

However, Cornelius has now left the Gers’ headquarters as the clock ticks down to the 11pm Scottish deadline.

Derek Cornelius heads to airport after signing Rangers deal

Bears need not worry – Cornelius is effectively a Rangers player.

However, he’s had to leave Auchenhowie in a hurry because he’s got a plane to catch to hook up with Jesse March’s Canadian national team ahead of friendlies against Romania and Wales.

Sky Sports News reporter Luke Shanley delivered the update from Rangers’ Training Centre on Monday night.

“They also look like signing Derek Cornelius, the Canadian international from Marseille,” said Shanley.

“Both Chermiti and Cornelius were here earlier today at the Rangers Training Centre but Cornelius has left now to join up with Canada’s squad in Romania.

“They have a friendly later this week.”

Rangers could complete mystery third signing after Youssef Chermiti and Derek Cornelius

BBC Scotland journalist Kheredine Idessane has reported that Cornelius and Chermiti could be joined by another deadline day arrival at Ibrox.

However, there’s an air of mystery about this supposed signing, as his identity has not been disclosed.

“I’m also told Rangers are not necessarily done for the night, and are still chasing one more forward,” said Idessane, as quoted on the BBC Sport website at 6:57pm on deadline day.

Rangers fans will definitely want another addition to their forward line.

Chermiti is joining Rangers from Everton for up to £10million, but he’s hardly a proven entity, so someone with a few games and goals to their name could help Russell Martin out up front.

Let’s face it, Martin is going to need all the help he needs in order to not be sacked before the end of September.
