Rangers to bank millions as Cyriel Dessers bids accepted, two transfer close at Ibrox

Cyriel Dessers looks to have made his final Rangers appearance against Celtic on Saturday.

Rangers and Celtic played out an underwhelming 0-0 draw at Ibrox in a match that summed up the plight of both teams.

Dessers has been linked with a move away from Rangers, but came on in the 72nd minute for debutant Bojan Miovski.

However, the forward is set to leave Ibrox after what Russell Martin said, with two new signings lined up.

Russell Martin provides major update on Cyriel Dessers’ future

Panathinaikos are the favourites to sign Dessers, having reportedly made an offer to the Ibrox outfit.

The Rangers frontman was linked with a move to Greece earlier in the window, with AEK Athens keen.

Dessers finished the 2024/25 campaign as the top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership as the Bears fell well short of champions Celtic.

However, with a new manager on board, there were always going to be changes, and the 30-year-old divided opinion despite his numbers.

Now, he is primed to exit the Glasgow club after what Martin said after the goalless draw at Ibrox.

“I think we’re close to a couple,” he said via Sky Sports Scotland on 31 August.

“I also think Cyriel’s probably played his last game for the club, and he’s been great, he’s been great the whole time he’s been here, so he goes with everyone’s best wishes.

“Obviously, things change in football, but it looks likely, and we’ll have two guys at least in the building, and we’ll see what happens on the other side of that.

“I think it’s great for everyone. I think it’s great business for us, it’s good for him, with the stage that he’s at with his career, and as I said, he goes with everyone’s best wishes.”

How much Rangers will bank as Cyriel Dessers bids accepted

Given how effective the Nigerian international has been for the Gers, supporters will be wondering how much they will bank for his services.

Indeed, Rangers have now accepted transfer bids from both Panathinaikos and AEK Athens, according to Rangers Review on 31 August.

However, the publication reports that Panathinaikos are leading the race for the 30-year-old after agreeing a deal worth around £3.6million plus add-ons.

Although Dessers’ goals will be missed at Ibrox, Martin will be relishing the prospect of having more attacking options of his own through the door.
