Jamie Vardy’s new club and Rangers transfer twist shared by Sky Sports
Rangers appear set to learn the fate of their pursuit of Jamie Vardy in the final days of the transfer window.
The veteran striker has been a free agent since he left Leicester City earlier in the summer, and there have been a huge group of clubs who have been tipped to secure his signature ahead of deadline day.
Rangers are among those linked with Vardy, who has recently been training in Portugal in order to maintain his fitness ahead of his next move.
The Ibrox outfit have had a disastrous start to the season, and the arrival of a player like the 39-year-old could bring the lift that is needed to everyone in Govan.

Jamie Vardy to join Cremonese as Rangers eye Derek Cornelius
Vardy’s arrival at Rangers could certainly have had a transformative effect on their season, but the former England international finally appears to have made his decision, and it isn’t good for Russell Martin and Co.
Moves to the top-flight in both England and Scotland have been strongly mooted for the frontman in recent weeks, but he is now on the verge of completing a move abroad to Serie A.
- Vardy has been linked with a move to both Rangers and Celtic
- He netted 145 goals in the Premier League during his time with Leicester
- He now looks set to join newly-promoted Serie A side Cremonese
Cremonese have won their first two games in the Italian top tier this season, and they are now understood to be in the “formal details” of a deal to sign Vardy, according to Sky Sport Italia.
The Lombardy-based side are hoping to get the striker to Milan by Sunday, in order to get the deal signed off ahead of Monday’s deadline.
In addition, they are believed to hold an interest in Marseille centre-back Derek Cornelius, with Rangers also keen on the Canadian.
Jamie Vardy decision is another kick in the teeth for the Gers
Martin has Rangers firmly stuck in a rut, and Vardy’s imminent decision to head to Italy is yet another kick in the teeth for them.
Given the size of the club and the potential for him to play European football this season, the Gers would surely have fancied their chances of tempting the former Leicester man to make the switch north of the border.
The fact that he has taken the surprising decision to join a team that is newly newly-promoted from the second tier in Italy will be disappointing from a Gers perspective.
Vardy’s combative nature would have likely made him a perfect fit at Ibrox, but any hope of that coming to fruition has surely now evaporated.
