Hearts and Hibs are going to overtake ‘appalling’ Rangers and Celtic – Tom English

Rangers played out an awful 0-0 draw against Celtic on Sunday in the first Old Firm derby of the season.

While Rangers were much improved from their 6-0 pounding against Club Brugge in the week, it was a tough watch.

Neither side had much quality, with John Soutter’s goal being disallowed by VAR being the only talking point at Ibrox.

Boos could be heard at full-time at Ibrox after Rangers failed to win for the fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership match.

Now, Tom English has not held back in his assessment of the game.

Tom English: Hibernian and Hearts have nothing to fear from Old Firm

The Old Firm derby was no doubt a concern for both sides, with neither team possessing the quality to break down their opponent.

Russell Martin was already under a great deal of pressure at Rangers going into the match, and the result will have done little to ease this.

On top of this, Celtic were not able to return to winning ways after their embarrassing defeat to FC Kairat in the week, which saw them knocked out of the Champions League.

As a result, English posted on X on 31 August that he believes that Hibs and Hearts have nothing to fear from Rangers and Celtic if they continue to invest and improve after the “appalling standard” in the derby.

Rangers in serious danger of not finishing in the top two in the Scottish Premiership

Upon the conclusion of the Old Firm derby, Rangers sat six points behind Celtic despite just four matches being played.

However, while the fans are keen to see the title return to Ibrox, the Gers may not even get into the top two this season on this form.

Both Hearts and Hibs have had great starts to their campaigns, and it is not out of the question that one of these could pip Rangers to second and claim the Champions League spot.

This would no doubt be a disaster and could cost the Gers millions in revenue.

Martin will need to change something as soon as possible after the international break, or he is at serious risk of getting the sack.
