Rangers close in on permanent deal for striker Sean Dyche hailed in Premier League

Rangers look set to add some much-needed firepower to their squad.

Last time out, Rangers suffered a 6-0 defeat to Club Brugge as their Champions League dreams came to an abrupt end away from Ibrox.

This was thanks in part to Max Aarons’ red card that left Rangers with 10 men for over 80 minutes of the second leg in Belgium.

With that being said, across both outings against the Pro League side, Russell Martin’s men lacked true attacking quality, with Danilo’s goal coming from barely five yards out.

As a result, bringing in a new striker option, especially with Cyriel Dessers out injured for Rangers, makes sense, and it looks likely to be a Sean Dyche-endorsed star that moves to Govan.

Rangers edge closer to Youssef Chermiti signing

There is no getting away from how poor this campaign has been after just 10 games, but signings could help change the tide.

Now, a deal to sign Chermiti from Everton is “virtually done” at Ibrox in what is a much-needed addition in the forward line with just days remaining in the window.

The question around this Chermiti deal was whether this would be a permanent or a loan deal, especially given that the Gers have made four fresh faces on loan.

Rangers loan signings so far this summer:

With that being said, it appears that a straight transfer is going to be utilised by the Light Blues, as opposed to a temporary switch for the season.

This comes after Raman Bhardwaj reported on 30 August that a deal for Chermiti would be a permanent move if it were to go through at Ibrox.

Sean Dyche is a big fan of Youssef Chermiti

It is fair to say that the 21-year-old comes as a largely unknown quantity after a quiet spell since joining the Toffees from Sporting Lisbon in 2023.

The Portugal under-21 international has featured across just 24 appearances on Merseyside, but injuries have hampered his progress in the Premier League.

With that being said, there have been many positive signs from the forward, something which wasn’t lost on Dyche in his time as Everton manager.

Speaking about Chermiti in January 2024, he said: “His development is going well. He’s adjusting to the physicality and nature of the English game, the way it’s going in the Premier League.

“He’s still a young player. You get a boy in for a few quid and everyone is like: ‘Why aren’t they doing this, why aren’t they doing that. He’s just a high-level development player, but he’s still a development player.

“We’re looking for him to do that. He’s doing it, working hard and enjoying it so far.”

It appears that the patience around his progress has reached its end under David Moyes, but that could prove to be the gain of Martin and Rangers.
