Hamza Igamane should be ashamed after new Lille announcement on Saturday

Rangers finally sold Hamza Igamane to Lille this week.

After a transfer saga which almost lasted the entirety of the transfer window, Rangers finally accepted a fee worth £10.4million for the striker.

The drama surrounding the transfer reached fever pitch when Igamane refused to be substituted on for Rangers against St Mirren

The Moroccan claimed he was injured, but there’s plenty of speculation suggesting that wasn’t actually the case.

Now, the latest news coming out of France adds more weight to this claim.

Hamza Igamane should be ashamed following the latest announcement by Lille

Igamane’s transfer to Lille was completed on Friday, just five days after he deemed himself too hurt to play against St Mirren.

Igamane also sat out training ahead of the Champions League qualifier with Club Brugge, ruling himself out of that game.

On Saturday, Igamane was named as a substitute for his new club against Lorient. Lille made the announcement when dropping the team sheet an hour before kick-off.

He was brought on at half-time with the game still goalless. The game finished 7-1, with Igamane scoring twice

Igamane showed no signs of being unfit in this game. It will count as a memorable debut for him, but it can only add to the rumours that he was fit enough to play for Rangers last weekend.

And assuming he did use an injury excuse not to put on the famous Rangers strip – as now looks the case – the forward should be truly ashamed.

Igamane transfer saga reflects badly on Rangers

Some Rangers supporters will be glad to see the back of Igamane after his antics at St Mirren.

These are passionate supporters, and they won’t want anyone at the club who isn’t proud to wear the shirt at any opportunity.

Rangers will be relieved to secure a significant fee for Igamane before the transfer window closed, as keeping him after such public drama could have disrupted the squad further.

However, it could still prove to be a stinker of a decision to sell him if the club fails to bring in a suitable forward to replace him.

Rangers also looks destined to sell Nicolas Raskin before the transfer window closes on 1 September. Raskin is another naturally gifted player that Rangers have decided they would prefer to cash in on.

These controversial decisions will be judged based on what replacements are recruited.
