Cyriel Dessers exit twist as late bid emerges at Rangers ahead of deadline
Cyriel Dessers could still leave Rangers.
The Nigeria international has been touted with an Ibrox exit all summer, but has remained in Govan despite the speculation.
Panathinaikos were readying a £4.5million bid for Dessers, joining Greek rivals AEK Athens in the race for his signature.
Rangers have already lost Hamza Igamane, with the Morocco star joining French outfit Lille in a £10.5million deal.

Cyriel Dessers could leave Rangers as new approach made
AEK had walked away from their pursuit after Rangers’ demands for Dessers proved to be more than they were willing to pay.
However, Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos reported on 30 August that AEK have contacted the Gers once again over a move for the striker.
There has been a new twist, though, as Panathinaikos have made an offer for Dessers and are favourites to sign him in a new update from Chorianopoulos.
The Greek window is open until September 12, so there could still be plenty of twists in the saga.
Can Rangers afford to sell Cyriel Dessers?
Dessers has struggled with injuries at the start of the campaign, but he was the Gers’ most lethal finisher last season, notching 29 goals and seven assists in 55 games.
He is often criticised for his prolificacy in front of goal and there are question marks over whether he fits in Russell Martin’s system.
- Joined Rangers from Cremonese in a £4.5m move in 2023
- Dessers has made 115 appearances for Rangers
- Has scored 52 times in his Gers career
Rangers have confirmed the signing of Bojan Miovski and also seem to be progressing with a permanent move for Everton’s Youssef Chermiti.
The former has experience in Scotland with 30 goals in 72 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, while the latter is relatively raw and has featured very little in recent seasons since moving to the Premier League.
If those two strikers are signed, it would leave Martin with four options, and he may decide to cash in on Dessers, given his age.
The former Feyenoord man has revealed that it would take a “special club” for him to leave Govan, but if he feels that he is being forced out, then he may accept an exit in the final knockings of the window.
