Rangers now in advanced talks to sign Youssef Chermiti as exit announced
Rangers are prioritising a late move for Everton striker Youssef Chermiti in the final days of the transfer window.
Rangers will have been put on red alert to sign Chermiti after he was left out of the matchday squad by David Moyes on Wednesday for the cup game against Mansfield Town.
Usually, cup games are used to give fringe players first-team minutes, but the 21-year-old’s absence suggested a loan move could be on the cards ahead of the transfer deadline.
Everton are open to letting Chermiti leave on loan as he has struggled to become a first-team regular on Merseyside since joining from Sporting CP in 2023.

Youssef Chermiti eyed as Hamza Igamane replacement at Ibrox
Rangers are keen on Chermiti as Russell Martin is desperate to bring in a new striker in the coming days.
Despite signing a number of players this summer, Gers have also dealt with significant first-team departures and the squad does not seem stronger than what it was last season.
Hamza Igamane was also officially announced as a Lille player on Friday, thus adding to the Ibrox outfit’s attacking woes.
- Chermiti is 21 years old and stands at 1.92 metres tall
- The Portuguese striker joined Everton for £15million in 2023
- He has made 24 senior appearances for them but has not found the back of the net yet
This has seen the Glasgow club ramp up their pursuit of the Everton striker and they have even entered advanced talks to secure his services, according to reliable Toffees insider The Bobble on 29 August.
Gers have already made an approach to the Toffees to sign the 21-year-old on loan with an option to buy.

Rangers are taking a gamble with Youssef Chermiti
Rangers are taking a huge gamble by expecting Chermiti to replace Igamane, as the 21-year-old Everton loanee arrives with minimal proven output and persistent injury concerns, contrasting sharply with Igamane’s prolific 16-goal debut season that turned a £1.7million investment into a £10.4million Lille sale.
Chermiti has zero senior goals in 24 Everton appearances, limited by hamstring and foot issues that sidelined him for over 20 games last term, and he was omitted from recent squads signaling his fringe status.
While his youth international record with 14 goals in 37 Portugal caps hints at potential, his lack of clinical finishing and adaptation to physical leagues like the Scottish Premiership risks exacerbating Rangers’ attacking woes amid a dismal start under Martin, including three draws and a 6-0 Champions League thrashing.
With Cyriel Dessers also battling injury issues and the Old Firm derby looming, banking on an untested prospect could deepen the crisis rather than resolve it.
