Russell Martin to have final roll of dice as Rangers in talks for £12.5m forward

Rangers chiefs are analysing Russell Martin’s position as manager following their 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Club Brugge on Wednesday night.

Martin’s side exited the Champions League as Rangers were demolished by Club Brugge, losing 9-1 on aggregate across the two legs.

Although the main focus should be on Rangers’ leaky defence, they also appear to lack quality up front.

Danilo was hooked before the hour mark by Martin, as the former Southampton boss is in desperate need of a new number nine.

Rangers in talks to sign Everton’s Yousef Chermiti

Yousef Chermiti, 21, is the latest name to be linked with a move to Ibrox, as it is clear that the options that Mason currently has at his disposal are not good enough.

Speculation regarding Chermiti’s proposed move to Rangers escalated after the striker was omitted from Everton’s squad on Wednesday night, which took on Mansfield Town in the Carabao Cup.

According to reports from the Daily Mail on 28 August, the Gers are now in talks to bring the young striker to Glasgow on loan.

Everton signed Chermiti from Sporting Lisbon back in 2023, but he has been unable to establish himself as a regular starter.

With Everton also splashing the cash on Thierno Barry this summer, Chermiti looks to have fallen down the pecking order even further on Merseyside, and it looks like Rangers and Martin could be set to attempt to unlock the youngster’s full potential.

What is Yousef Chermiti’s goalscoring record for Everton?

Since switching Portugal for England, Chermiti has made 24 senior appearances for Everton.

Across those 24 appearances, Chermiti has yet to find the back of the net.

This potential move could be the final roll of the dice for Martin as Gers manager, and to trust that a striker who has not scored in 24 appearances for Everton will be the answer to his goal-scoring troubles is extremely risky.
