American owners to fly into Glasgow as decision now made on Russell Martin sack before Old Firm

Russell Martin is a man under an immense amount of pressure at Rangers.

Just as you thought a winless start in the league couldn’t get any worse, Rangers crashed out of the Champions League with a 9-1 aggregate defeat to Club Brugge.

Ibrox has been a hostile place for some time now, and the failures under Martin have only amplified those concerns.

Calls have been made for Martin to be sacked at Rangers as a result, with a decision now made on his future ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm Derby.

Russell Martin will take charge of Old Firm Derby

Despite the pressure mounting on Martin at Rangers, he is set to keep his job at Ibrox for now, according to Rangers Review.

Several members of the American ownership will make their way to Ibrox for the Old Firm clash this weekend, which Martin will take charge of as things stand.

The Gers boss will be looking for his first win in the Scottish Premiership, having drawn the first three league games of the season.

Martin appeared to be a defeated man in his post-match interview after their Champions League exit, but insisted that there had been no consideration made over his future in Glasgow.

Whether that changes depending on the outcome of Sunday’s encounter remains to be seen, but as of right now, his job is deemed safe.

Celtic could get Russell Martin sacked by September

Regardless of who it is against, if Martin failed to win his first four league games at Rangers, there is every chance he would be sacked.

However, with Celtic next up for Rangers at Ibrox, the need for a result is massive, and there would simply be no way back for him at Ibrox.

He has already shown the fact that he does not have what it takes to thrive at Rangers, and this Sunday will almost certainly come with a question as to why he wasn’t sacked previously.

Things need to change at Rangers, again, and a defeat on Sunday could genuinely end their chances of domestic success before September is even upon us.
