Cyriel Dessers may have just confirmed Rangers exit decision with interview abroad

Cyriel Dessers has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Rangers throughout the summer transfer window.

Nigeria international Dessers has been linked with AEK Athens among others, though a deal has not materialised ahead of next week’s deadline.

With fellow forward Hamza Igamane set to join Lille from Rangers for £10.5million, there is now added importance on Rangers keeping hold of Dessers.

And Dessers has now dropped a massive hint over where his future lies in an interview in Belgium.

Cyriel Dessers says what it’ll take for him to leave Rangers

Dessers has endured a terrible start to the Scottish Premiership season, but that can be said of pretty much every Rangers player.

With Dessers now expected to be fit to play Club Brugge, all eyes will be on the 30-year-old as Rangers seek to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg.

Despite the magnitude of the clash, talk over the Belgian native’s future has certainly not died down.

And in an interview in his homeland, Dessers has effectively confirmed he intends to stay at Rangers unless a “special club” comes calling.

“To really answer your question: all I can say is that I’m at a fantastic club,” he told Nieuwsblad.

“It’s not easy, because there’s always something going on here and the pressure is always immense.

“But I genuinely think Rangers is one of the best clubs in the world. To get me out of here, everything will have to be right, and it will have to be for another special club.”

What is Cyriel Dessers’ overall record as a Rangers player?

Dessers finished as the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership last season as he netted 18 times for the Gers.

All-in-all, the Nigeria international has 52 goals in 115 appearances for Rangers in all competitions, working out at not much more than a goal every other game.

That includes seven goals in 29 games in various European competitions, and that is where Rangers need Dessers to step up if he leads the line against Brugge on Wednesday.

With it looking increasingly likely the striker is staying put at Ibrox, Dessers needs to find his scoring form very soon.
