Ally McCoist loses it with ‘sleeping’ Rangers star after what he did vs Club Brugge
Rangers suffered a 9-1 aggregate defeat against Club Brugge and it ended their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
Club Brugge beat Russell Martin’s side 3-1 at Ibrox and then got the job done at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday night.
Rangers lost 6-0 on the night to Brugge after putting in an abject performance in Belgium.

Ally McCoist savages Nasser Djiga in Club Brugge clash
Ally McCoist slammed Nasser Djiga, who joined Rangers on loan from Wolves this summer, blaming him for the visitors conceding the opening goal.
Joaquin Seys put a good cross into the box and Djiga was expected to deal with it.
However, Nicolo Tresoldi managed to get himself ahead of the Gers defender and score a diving header to beat Jack Butland in goal.
The 22-year-old, who joined on loan from Wolves, did very little to prevent the goal from being scored.
Speaking on TNT Sports 1, McCoist said: “Beautiful goal, well worked out on the left-hand side, tremendous cross, centre-back sleeping, Nsiala.
“No idea of the player behind him, no talking at all from the player in the left back position.
“Left side of the central defence, a joke there. Absolutely no communication at all between the left centre back and the left back and mistakes that keep happening.”

Rangers need to sign a Nasser Djiga upgrade
Djiga’s underwhelming start to life at Rangers, following his season-long loan arrival from Wolves, has been riddled with glaring errors that have exposed the club’s defensive frailties under new manager Martin.
The 22-year-old Burkina Faso international, touted for his physicality and Champions League experience from Red Star Belgrade, has instead delivered shocking performances, including a straight red card for hauling down Dundee’s Finlay Robertson in a draw at Ibrox, leaving the Gers with 10 men and scrambling for a late equaliser.
- Djiga has eight international caps
- He has played 14 Champions League games
- The 22-year-old has featured in the Premier League on five occasions
Worse came in the Champions League playoff first leg against Club Brugge, where Djiga’s inexplicable decision to abandon a loose ball three minutes in allowed Romeo Vermant to lob Jack Butland, sparking a 3-1 humiliation after 20 minutes.
Paired with John Souttar in Martin’s possession-heavy system, Djiga’s hesitation, poor positioning, and inability to command the backline have contributed to a leaky defence.
With the transfer deadline looming on 1 September, Rangers must urgently sign a quality centre-back, such as a permanent upgrade over loanees like Djiga and the recently collapsed deal for Nobel Mendy, to shore up vulnerabilities before the Old Firm clash.
Failure to do so risks another trophyless campaign, extinguishing title hopes against a dominant Celtic, as Martin’s rebuild crumbles under sustained pressure and fan unrest
