Rangers star ranked Scottish Premiership’s third-worst player as shocking stat emerges

Rangers have had an awful start to their 2025/26 campaign despite all of Russell Martin’s new signings.

The Gers are yet to win a match in the Scottish Premiership, making it their worst start in 36 years.

As a result, Martin is under heavy pressure at Rangers already, despite only taking over the Glaswegian side in the summer.

However, while some of the Scotsman’s tactics have been baffling, plenty of players have drastically underperformed, which has resulted in this early-season slog.

Cyriel Dessers ranked third-worst player in the Scottish Premiership

Despite winning the Golden Boot last campaign, Cryiel Dessers has had an awful start to the new season.

While the striker missed the St. Mirren match with an injury, he did play in the opening two fixtures, starting in the 1-1 draw against Dundee.

However, the Nigerian is yet to find the net, with his only goal coming from the penalty spot in Rangers’ 3-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League.

As a result, WhoScored on 26 August have not held back in their assessment of the striker.

So far this campaign, in the Scottish Premiership, he has averaged a 5.80 rating, with only Hibernian’s Jordan Smith and Aberdeen’s Graeme Shinnie being lower.

Dessers has had an awful start to the new season

This comes as little surprise, with Dessers being dreadful in the 1-1 draw against Dundee at Ibrox

However, his stats are arguably the most concerning. Despite playing 117 minutes, the striker is yet to register a shot or a single key pass on the field.

His passing accuracy is also incredibly poor at 66.7 per cent, while he is also getting dispossessed 3.85 times a match.

Rangers need to sanction a Cyriel Dessers sale

Dessers has already been linked away from Rangers multiple times this transfer window, and now, Martin needs to ensure that a departure happens.

It is clear that the striker cannot play in his system, and if these funds can be used to sanction a new attacker, then it could help rescue their poor start.

On top of this, given his age and his form, Dessers’ value is only going to deteriorate. Therefore, Rangers would be wise to cash in now.

Being smart in the transfer window is a must if the Gers want to catch Celtic, and this sale would no doubt be wise.
