Hamza Igamane should be truly ashamed as ‘huge news’ shared from Rangers training base

Rangers have a huge problem on their hands as they aim to resolve the situation surrounding Hamza Igamane.

Rangers have had a nightmare start under Russell Martin, drawing their first three Scottish Premiership matches, and are on the brink of a Champions League exit after losing to Club Brugge in last week’s first leg.

Their last match saw Rangers draw away at St Mirren in a performance where they did not offer enough attacking threat, and Martin wanted Igamane to come on and change the game.

Igamane refused to come on, claiming that he was injured, and there has now been a major development over the striker’s future at Rangers.

Hamza Igamane absent from Rangers training on Tuesday

Igamane impressed last season and has attracted transfer interest from French side Lille, but Rangers did not receive a bid which met their valuation.

The situation has now become messy, as it has now emerged that Igamane is not injured as he claimed, but is not in training with the Rangers squad either.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (26 August, 10:40am) from Rangers’ training base, reporter Gordon Duncan shared that a move to France is still looking likely.

“He is not [in training],” he stated of Igamane.

“This is huge news coming out of Rangers’ training centre. Not only is he not here, it does look as though Rangers are preparing for life without him.

“My understanding is that he’s been assessed and as far as Rangers are concerned, there’s no signs of an injury.”

Hamza Igamane should be ashamed ahead of Rangers exit

Igamane was popular among the Rangers fanbase at the end of last season, with a winning goal in an Old Firm clash a particular highlight of his year at Ibrox.

Had Igamane left Rangers for a potential record sale fee in a clean exit, Igamane would have left on good terms with Rangers fans, while the club could have reinvested this fee in a new striker.

Until such an offer comes in, the expectation of the club and fans would be that Igamane plays and trains professionally, and had he come on against St Mirren, he could have won his side the game.

Martin is under pressure at Rangers, but while there is little sympathy for him, being unable to rely on his best players to act professional shows what a tough job he has inherited.
