Ally McCoist blasts ‘unacceptable’ Rangers star for looking ‘miles off’ it
Russell Martin has gotten off to a shocking start as Rangers manager.
Rangers 1-1 draw with St Mirren intensified pressure on Martin’s future, and should the 3-1 defeat to Club Brugge worsen, he could be in trouble.
The Rangers manager already appears to have upset the apple cart at Ibrox, having brought in 11 new players.
In such a troubling time, he could do with supporters and players getting behind the team, but he appears to be having the opposite affect.

Hamza Igamane ‘looks miles off it’ – Ally McCoist
The 39-year-old has faced plenty of disruptions at Rangers so far, with Martin’s post-match rant from the opening draw with Motherwell catching the supporters’ attention.
Hamza Igamane’s future has been up in the air this summer, but he was expected to be a regular in Martin’s side after recovering from an injury sustained in the summer.
However, Martin said that Igamane claimed he was injured and refused to come off the bench in the 1-1 draw with St Mirren, which has created suspicion that he no longer wants to play for the club.
- Igamane was signed from AS FAR for £1.7million.
- Cyriel Dessers lost his place in the starting lineup to the 22-year-old last season.
- The young centre-forward scored 11 league goals in the previous campaign.
Speaking on TalkSport (9.40am, 26 August), Ally McCoist said: “That’s unacceptable, if that’s the case, then you hammer him, absolutely hammer him.
“There’s no doubt you need him, because he’s one of the better players but he is one of the better players but he’s one of the better players when he’s focused and wants to do the business.
“He looks miles off that at this moment in time, he looks like a player to me who has been tapped up and probably wants away.”

Has Russell Martin created his own problems?
You can’t help thinking that Martin may have caused his own issues at Rangers.
Players offloaded by Rangers this summer:
- Robin Propper – FC Twente
- Ridvan Yilmaz – Besiktas
- Jefte – Palmeiras
- Jose Cifuentes – Toronto
- Ben Davies – Oxford United
Immediately coming in and bringing his own players in from England will have upset the dressing room.
The likes of Joe Rothwell being plunged straight into the first-team over top performers such as Nico Raskin won’t bode well amongst supporters.
After such a poor 2024/25 campaign, there was a clear need for Rangers to move some players on, but trying to build an all-new side and unsettling some of Gers’ best players wasn’t the best move from Martin.
