Rangers transfer worry shared as Russell Martin cries out for a goalscorer
Rangers’ poor start to the season continued as they drew 1-1 with St Mirren on Sunday.
Findlay Curtis scored a late equaliser to save a point, but the result means Rangers have failed to win any of their first three league games.
Russell Martin can point to some poor individual performances, while the refereeing was certainly poor at times.
The drama surrounding Hamza Igamane’s refusal to come on also threatens to distract from the result, but the fact remains that it has been a terrible start for the new Rangers boss Russell Martin.

This article includes exclusive comment from former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson.
Rangers’ lack of firepower remains a key issue for Russell Martin to solve
Martin has been heavily backed in the transfer market since arriving at Ibrox this summer, but his team still looks short up front.
Danilo was his go-to centre-forward, but the Brazilian has just one goal in seven appearances. Cyriel Dessers and Igamane have been out of sorts, too, and it remains possible that they could be sold.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson insisted that this was an issue that Martin would have to fix before the transfer window closes.
He said: “Danilo just doesn’t look as though he will cut it, unfortunately, while Dessers has been carrying an injury which hasn’t been ideal.
“Igamane is also clearly not a happy camper. A new striker is very much needed. The worrying thing is that a number of players have signed, and yet we look worse than last season.”

Rangers look too predictable in attack
There are many issues that Martin needs to solve if he’s going to fix this Rangers team, but they’re predictable attacking style is one of them.
Rangers have played three league games against teams that are mostly happy to sit in their own half, defend and play for a draw. They’ve struggled to break these teams down every time.
Their attack has been very one-dimensional in these games, and that’s partly due to not having strikers who can offer something different.
When they face these ‘smaller’ teams in the Scottish Premiership, it can help to have a striker with
- A significant aerial threat
- Lightning pace
- A bit of skill to unlock the defence
Igamane is the one wild card in their squad, but it looks like his days at Ibrox at numbered. Martin will be hoping he can find another player like that in the next few days.
