David Weir calls out Abdallah Sima as he forgets Rangers and Ibrox in new footage
Rangers supporters are renowned for being among the most passionate supporters in world football.
Everyone is aware of the club’s stature, and when Ibrox is rocking, it produces a hostile atmosphere that away teams dread playing in.
Unfortunately, the team haven’t given the Rangers’ faithful many reasons to celebrate so far under Russell Martin’s rather dire tenure, with sections of the Ibrox crowd evidently feeling their manager is not fit for purpose.
Abdallah Sima has first-hand experience of just how special it can be when things are going well at Rangers, making the Senegalese’s decision to snub his former club when asked about them even more bizarre.

Abdallah Sima picks Marseille over Rangers when asked about favourite stadium to play in
Just as Djeidi Gassama is currently doing for Rangers, Sima provided plenty of goals from out wide during his spell in Glasgow.
- The 24-year-old spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Rangers from Brighton
- Sima scored 11 league goals in 25 appearances during his campaign in Scotland
The Brighton man was well-liked whilst he played his football north of the border, but he may have gone down in Rangers’ supporters’ estimations after his recent comments.
On a video posted on their X account on August 23, players were asked what their favourite stadium was aside from the Amex.
When Sima was asked the question, he replied with Marseille’s stadium, the Stade Velodrome.
Despite David Weir attempting to change his mind and get him to say Ibrox, the winger stuck with his initial answer before admitting that Ibrox would be his second choice.
More defensive arrivals needed for Russell Martin
Whilst signing more players of Sima’s quality would always be welcome additions in the final third, Martin must focus on strengthening his defence if he wants to have a successful future as Gers boss.
Martin already has the likes of Gassama, Oliver Antman and Mikey Moore that he can deploy on the wing, but his options at left-back are noticeably fewer with Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz leaving the club.
Another centre-half may also be a necessity, with Nasser Djiga’s horrendous start to life with the Bears perfectly personifying Rangers’ defensive woes so far under Martin.
