49ers free up more Rangers funds as Ben Davies to Oxford United terms laid out
Rangers are set for a busy end to the transfer window, with incomings and outgoings expected at Ibrox.
There has already been an influx of arrivals in Glasgow as Russell Martin looks to make an impression with the Gers.
As a result, Ben Davies has been linked with a move out of Rangers this summer, following his loan last term.
Now, it appears that a move for Davies is accelerating as the 49ers look to generate more funds for the Light Blues.

Ben Davies to leave Rangers for Oxford United on loan
Davies was considered out of the Rangers’ picture in pre-season, and that narrative has continued into the competitive games.
The defender enjoyed a successful loan with Birmingham City last season as they secured promotion back to the Championship.
Davies made 44 appearances for the West Midlands outfit in all competitions, doing his reputation no harm.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Championship | 35 | 1 | 0 |
EFL Trophy | 7 | 0 | 1 |
FA Cup | 2 | 0 | 0 |
However, under Martin, the centre-back has not made a single competitive appearance, fuelling speculation around his future.
Now, the 49ers are to free up more Rangers funds by sanctioning the exit of the 30-year-old on Friday.
That is because Davies is expected to complete a season-long loan to Oxford United, according to the Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan via X (22 August).
How much money could 49ers free up from Ben Davies move?
Given how much Davies is believed to be earning, his move to the Championship should open up significant funds.
It is believed that he and Rabbi Matondo earn a combined £55,000 a week, which translates to around £2.86million per year.
Davies has entered the final year of his contract at Ibrox, meaning that he could leave without a fee next summer.
With that in mind, all eyes will be on the details of the loan deal to see if there is a buy option included for Oxford.
