Russell Martin wants Rangers to sell player Philippe Clement raved about

Rangers need to clear out some of their fringe players in what is now a bloated squad, and an exit appears to be on the cards.

Russell Martin’s arrival saw several players across a variety of positions join this summer, but there is still a lot of work to do in terms of outgoings.

Rangers need to make squad space, raise transfer funds, slash their wage bill and clear out some of the disastrous signings they have made in recent years.

Former manager Philippe Clement left a bad legacy as a lot of his signings failed to impress, and are still at Ibrox, and Martin now wants rid of one of them.

Martin wants Nedim Bajrami sale

Nedim Bajrami joined Rangers from Sassuolo a year ago, in what was a fairly high-profile capture under Clement.

However, despite making 49 appearances across all competitions since, Bajrami looks set to be discarded by Rangers, with the midfielder not part of Martin’s plans.

Bajrami scored an outstanding goal in his last appearance against Alloa, but was left out of the squad in Rangers’ dismal defeat to Club Brugge, and he will now head for the exit.

Albanian outlet Gazetablic has now reported that, following his exclusion from the squad against Club Brugge, Bajrami will be left out against St Mirren in the next match, and is expected to leave before the end of the transfer window as Martin does not consider him as part of his plans.

Philippe Clement’s signings holding Rangers back

Clement recruited several players for fairly substantial fees and hardly any of them worked out at Rangers, with Robin Propper among those departing after just one year.

Bajrami arrived to much praise from the Dutchman, but no one could figure out what the Albanian’s best position in the team was.

“You will see that he’s a good technical player that can make the difference in the last final third. He’s smart and makes good choices on the ball, but also works hard for the team,” Clement stated in September 2024.

“So, he can help us a lot from the side’s playing as a winger, but also as a number 10. He’s going to be a good asset for this team.”

Martin is under pressure at Rangers, but no manager is likely to succeed until the squad has been fully cleared out of underperformers like Bajrami.
