Rangers told to sign attacker who could cause ‘chaos’ after poor Russell Martin start
Rangers boss Russell Martin is facing more criticism after his team lost 3-1 to Club Brugge at Ibrox on Tuesday.
The Light Blues were 3-0 down at half-time, but they showed enough character to pull a goal back in the second half through Danilo.
Martin has called for patience from Rangers fans and insists his side are still in the tie, but the performance left a lot to be desired.
The result increases the pressure on Martin after Rangers dropped points in both of their opening Scottish Premiership matches against Motherwell and Dundee.

This article includes exclusive comment from former Rangers defender David Robertson.
David Robertson suggests Rangers are ‘too predictable’ up front
Rangers have rode their luck at the back in all of their Champions League ties so far.
They made basic errors in the first half against Club Brugge, and the Belgian side ruthlessly punished them.
However, former Rangers defender David Robertson says he’s more concerned with Rangers’ performances at the other end of the pitch.
In an exclusive interview with Ibrox News, he suggested Russell Martin’s side were too predictable up front, particularly in their domestic fixtures.
And Robertson wants to see a player who can cause “chaos” lead the line for the Gers.
He said: “The likes of Dundee, they sit in, defend, and they’ll be happy with a point. There needs to be a different way to play to counteract that. They don’t have a [Brian] Laudrup or a [Paul] Gascoigne who can single-handedly break those teams down.
“In Europe, teams open up and play in their spaces, but there’s no space [domestically].
“A target to hit can maybe cause a bit of chaos, mixing up the game up a bit, getting the ball forward early, getting in behind, getting it right into a striker who can maybe flick-on or hold the ball up.
“Just mix the game up a bit, because I think it’s a bit predictable against the teams that just sit and defend.”

Rangers looking to address striking problem in the transfer market
Robertson had previously suggested that Jamie Vardy would ‘run riot’ up front for Rangers this season, but he’s currently looking more likely to sign for Celtic instead.
Mikey Moore has signed on a season-long loan from Tottenham, but it seems unlikely that Martin will pin all his hopes on a teenager.
Hamza Igamane looked bright when he was introduced against Club Brugge, and he certainly can’t be described as predictable, but it is still being suggested that he could be sold this summer.
Player | Appearances | Minutes Played | Goals |
Danilo | 7 | 412 | 1 |
Cyriel Dessers | 5 | 197 | 0 |
Hamza Igamane | 3 | 67 | 0 |
Mikey Moore | 2 | 90 | 0 |
So, it seems that Rangers will have to address this issue in the transfer market.
Aside from Vardy, they haven’t been linked with any big-name strikers since Martin was appointed. It could be that Rangers have to sell a star like Igamane before they can afford to bring in a proven frontman.
With the transfer window closing in less than two weeks, they will have to move quickly.
