Rangers fans do something to Russell Martin one former player’s never seen before
Russell Martin’s start to life at Rangers has been far from ideal.
The Light Blues have yet to win a Scottish Premiership game, suffered a scare against Alloa in the Premier Sports Cup and appear to be on the brink of being dumped out of the Champions League by Club Brugge.
Fans’ sentiment online is that their new manager is not fit for purpose, and this spilled over into Ibrox on as many Rangers supporters flooded out of the stadium as their side found themselves 3-0 down within the opening 20 minutes on Tuesday night.
Martin’s start to life in Glasgow, and the subsequent backlash, is something Billy Dodds says he has not previously witnessed.

Ibrox crowd is ‘getting to Martin’, says Billy Dodds
Joe Rothwell is one of the players who has been in the firing line, with the midfielder being labelled as unfit by some onlookers.
- Multiple of Martin’s new signings have failed to hit the ground running
- Max Aarons has endured a shaky start to life north of the border
- Nasser Djiga has also got off to a nightmare start for the Light Blues, with the centre-back having already been sent off against Dundee this season
- The defender was also at fault in a bizarre incident against Club Brugge
However, it is Martin who has been bearing the majority of the criticism from Rangers’ supporters for their start to the season.
And speaking on Go Radio on 20 August, Dodds said “I’ve never seen en masse so many supporters turn on, or not be happy with the situation, and show him that they aren’t happy with where Rangers are.
“I’ve never seen that this early in the season, with the crowd getting to Russell Martin or the players at times, the way they are doing.”

Celtic fixture already looks defining for Russell Martin
Whilst sacking Martin already would be harsh, it seems as though a large part of the fanbase has never really accepted the former Southampton boss in Glasgow.
Whilst persevering with the manager and giving him more time would be the sensible option on paper, it may not be possible already due to the amount of backlash he is receiving.
With the Old Firm clash against Celtic set to take place at the end of this month, a heavy loss in that fixture could see Martin dismissed before he has even had time to settle down in his new role.
