Jamie Vardy transfer twist emerges at Rangers as striker trains in Portugal
Rangers may yet have a chance of enticing former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy to Rangers this transfer window.
The 38-year-old left the Foxes as a free agent after his contract expired at the end of last season, and is now available for a bargain deal.
Vardy’s move to Ibrox could potentially be a game-changer for the Light Blues as they hope to give Martin the necessary tools to succeed.
While Brendan Rogers’ Celtic are also in the race for the ex-Leicester star, who is desperate to join them, nothing has been finalised.

Rangers still in race as Vardy in no rush to make transfer decision
Several teams, including the Gers, have either made offers or enquiries to sign Vardy this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The news outlet reports on 19 August that the 38-year-old is yet to make a decision on his next club amid interest from Ibrox.
It’s been claimed that the former England international is currently training in Portugal, and since he’s a free agent, the centre-forward can sign for any team even after the transfer window closes.
With Vardy scoring 145 goals in the Premier League over the years, he could definitely have a short-term impact in G51.

Jamie Vardy signs: What will Premier League legend bring to Ibrox?
Ibrox is the sort of stage Vardy will undoubtedly be keen to prove himself on, and supporters will certainly take to him quickly.
While the striker isn’t in his prime, there is still an abundant quality in the 38-year-old to find the back of the net, as was seen at Leicester last season.
The Englishman may have lost some of his lethal pace, but his hold-up play and finishing were still admirable at the King Power Stadium in the 2024/25 campaign.
Premier League 2024/25 | Statistics |
Appearances | 35 |
Goals | 9 |
Assists | 4 |
Ground duels won per game (percentage) | 1.5 (48.1%) |
Aerial duels won per game (percentage) | 1.5 (47.7%) |
Rangers could lose Hamza Igamane to LOSC Lille in the final weeks of the transfer window, and they could potentially have little to no time left to find a replacement.
Vardy’s possible availability even after the end of August should be something the Gers keep an eye on, with his aggressiveness and leadership quality seemingly missing from the current crop of players.
The 38-year-old may not be able to play 90 minutes every game, but he arguably has the talent to come off the bench at Ibrox and make a difference.
