How much Rangers are set to save as Jose Cifuentes exit is agreed

Jose Cifuentes has had a difficult time at Rangers since his move in 2023.

So far, the 26-year-old has only made 20 appearances for the Gers and has mainly been sent out on loan.

Under Russell Martin, the midfielder does not appear to be any closer to securing a spot back in the side.

It was reported that Cifuentes was transfer-listed by Rangers this summer as they look to move the Ecuadorian international on permanently.

Rangers to save at least £1m as Toronto close in on Jose Cifuentes

Going into the final days of the transfer window, Cifuentes looks all but set to leave Rangers.

Cifuentes has been urged to move on from Rangers, and now, this looks set to be happening.

According to GIVEMESPORT on 20 August, Toronto are finalising a deal to sign the midfielder on loan with the option to buy.

If all goes through, this should free up plenty of wages for the Gers going forward.

The Scottish Sun reported on 23 August 2023 that Cifuentes was set to pick up just shy of £11,000-a-week at Rangers, and the midfielder has not signed a new contract with them.

With just under two years left on his contract, if the Ecuadorian is earning around £10,800-a-week, this would see him net £561,000

As a result, if Toronto cover all of the 26-year-old’s wages and sign him permanently at the end of his deal, this will save Rangers around £1.04m.

This is also without considering the potential bonuses and clauses in his contract.

Russell Martin needs to get rid of Rangers’ deadwood

Given how many signings Rangers have made this summer, their wage bill would have likely increased significantly.

As a result, Martin needs to ensure that many of the outcasts in the squad are sold to help quickly reduce these costs.

By Rangers selling players like Cifuentes, it can help relieve the pressure on the Glaswegians’ finances and potentially lead to them signing more stars in the future.

Hopefully, the deal for the Ecuadorian will be completed as soon as possible.
