49ers ‘pull off some transfer magic’ as Jefte exit details emerge

Rangers look to be clearing out some of the players who clearly are not a part of Russell Martin’s plans.

It’s been a far from ideal start to Martin’s tenure at Ibrox, with Gers finding themselves three goals down within the first 20 minutes of their Champions League playoff clash against Club Brugge on Tuesday.

Some of the Gers’ incomings in recent windows have been criticised, with £17million worth of talent left out of the Rangers squad that faced the Belgian outfit.

However, whilst some new arrivals have failed to live up to expectations so far, the 49ers will surely gain plaudits for the sale of full-back Jefte.

Rangers to make sizeable profit after Jefte sale

Jefte has been unable to fully establish himself in the starting XI under Martin so far, with the former Southampton boss constantly chopping and changing who starts in that left-back role this season.

Now, just one year on from the Brazilian’s move to Ibrox, Jefte has returned to his home country, signing for Palmeiras in a deal that will land the Light Blues a healthy profit.

Rangers announced the 21-year-old’s exit with a post on their X account on 20 August, with the post describing the fee as undisclosed.

However, reports from the Daily Record on 20 August suggest the fee is around £6.5million, with the package also set to include a sell-on clause as well as performance-related add-ons.

With Jefte only arriving in Glasgow last summer for £600,000, the 49ers look to have pulled off a piece of transfer magic, with the profits hopefully going towards someone who can make the left-back position their own under Martin.

49ers wise to cover their backs with sell-on clause

Although his Rangers career may not have unfolded the way many would have hoped, with Jefte leaving after just one season, the reported sell-on clause the 49ers have put in place could potentially spare their blushes in the future.

Being so young, the Brazilian has plenty of opportunity to still develop, and if his time at Palmeiras, Jefte impresses and earns a big money return to Europe, Rangers can take comfort in the fact they will land a chunk of that fee.

With Martin already under pressure, securing another defender to help seal up what has been a comically bad backline at times this season may be needed to ensure he does not lose his job.
