Rangers one step away from confirming Ridvan Yilmaz exit after personal terms agreed

Rangers could potentially announce the departure of Ridvan Yilmaz at Ibrox soon.

Russell Martin clearly doesn’t rely on the 24-year-old for the 2025/26 campaign, and it makes sense for the defender to seek pastures new.

Jayden Meghoma was immediately involved against Club Brugge in the first leg of the Champions League play-off on 19 August, and made a mark despite the 3-1 defeat.

Yilmaz should move to Besiktas in the coming weeks, with the Super Lig outfit interested in him, but some formalities still need to be finalised.

Ridvan Yilmaz waits for Rangers agreement with Besiktas

Yilmaz has already given Besiktas the green light after reaching an agreement on personal terms with them, according to Sabah.

The news outlet reports on 20 August that the Turkiye international is now waiting for the Gers and the Istanbul club to find a suitable solution at Ibrox for his exit.

It’s been claimed that the Light Blues want around £3million for the 24-year-old left-back, but the Super Lig outfit are pushing for a lower fee.

With Yilmaz seemingly surplus to requirements in G51, a transfer should be expected to materialise in the current window.

Max Aarons can’t start after Club Brugge defeat

Max Aarons has performed well at Ibrox since moving to the Gers on loan from Bournemouth.

Martin initially used the 25-year-old at left-back, but after that experiment arguably failed, he has played on the right side of the defence, although there hasn’t been any marked improvement.

James Tavernier may still be better than Aarons, and the Scottish manager needs to drop the former Norwich City star from his starting lineup.

Rangers have a couple of important weeks coming up, with the Scottish manager under severe pressure to get results with better displays.

Tavernier, Nasser Djiga, John Souttar and Meghoma should be the Glaswegian outfit’s first-choice backline going forward.

While the Wolves loanee wasn’t at his best against Brugge, Martin doesn’t have a lot of quality centre-back options at his disposal.

The Ibrox faithful have already grown weary of the Scottish manager, and something needs to give.
