Kris Boyd predicts ‘serious trouble’ for Rangers in clear warning to Russell Martin

Rangers could potentially be looking at a bleak season under Russell Martin already.

The Gers have made it to the Champions League play-off, and may secure a significant investment if they make it to the group stage of the competition.

Martin’s insistence on playing Kieran Dowell could possibly see the Ibrox faithful turn against the manager, with fans not really keen to see the Englishman play in G51.

The Light Blues now have some tough fixtures against Club Brugge, St Mirren and Celtic to deal with, and there’s every chance of things getting worse.

Kris Boyd predicts Rangers’ season to be over by the end of August

Kris Boyd wonders what will happen with Martin if the next two weeks don’t go to plan.

The ex-Gers forward suggests the Glaswegian outfit’s season could be over by the end of August, putting the Scottish manager under “serious trouble” at Ibrox.

Boyd fears for the Light Blues, who have tough tests against St Mirren and Celtic in the William Hill Premiership, and a loss in the Old Firm will certainly be damaging.

Speaking on Go Ballistic on 18 August, the former Scotland international said: “If the next two weeks don’t go to plan for Martin and Rangers, I don’t know where that leaves him. You could argue that the season will be over, and it’s the end of August.

“The St Mirren game is going to be difficult enough, but if they lose the Old Firm as well, wow, I don’t know where that leaves Martin. The end of August, and you could be looking at Rangers in serious trouble.”

Martin sack on cards before Christmas at Ibrox

A few games into the season, Martin’s tenure at Ibrox is being questioned, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the pressure intensify in the coming weeks.

The Gers haven’t put in convincing performances in most matches, and fans are already growing weary of some of the Scottish manager’s tactics.

While Martin has relied on Max Aarons to play at left-back, the Bournemouth loanee has struggled to showcase his talents so far.

Philippe Clement arguably survived the sack until February at Rangers last season due to their prospects in the Europa League.

The Glaswegian outfit turned up on European nights under the Belgian manager, but struggled to display any consistency domestically.

If the Gers find themselves several points behind Celtic before the turn of the year, Martin’s Christmas stocking may include a letter of termination.
