Kris Boyd makes ‘no-brainer’ claim as Rangers close to selling ‘very talented’ player

Rangers are working on their fourth departure of the summer transfer window since appointing Russell Martin.

The Light Blues recouped some money by selling Robin Propper back to FC Twente after the centre-back’s underwhelming debut season.

Robbie Fraser has joined Dunfermline Athletic on loan, while Ross McCausland has left for Aris Limassol, who have a conditional obligation to buy him.

The Glaswegian outfit have arguably made a significant investment in their squad recently, but are now set to generate a significant profit from their next sale.

Jefte sale makes sense at Rangers

Jefte’s potential exit to Palmeiras for £6million is an “absolute no-brainer”, Kris Boyd says.

The ex-Gers forward feels the Light Blues would have accepted half of what they are set to receive for the Brazilian defender at Ibrox.

Last summer, the 21-year-old was signed by the Glaswegian outfit from Fluminense, but Boyd hasn’t been impressed with his time in G51.

Speaking on Go Ballistic on 19 August, the Scotsman said: “It’s an absolute no-brainer. I think the club would’ve bitten off at half of that, to be honest. If the rumours are true in terms of £6m, that is some amount of money for someone who, let’s be realistic, I’m probably doing him a favour saying he’s done okay.”

Jefte leaves: What went wrong at Ibrox?

Jefte was being linked with a move to Chelsea in the winter transfer window and now finds himself going back to Brazil.

The 21-year-old had an instant impact at the Gers, but his performances dwindled in the second half of last season.

Under the new management, the left-back doesn’t seem to be the first choice, and it isn’t surprising to see him leave.

During a press conference in August 2024, then Rangers manager Philippe Clement described Jefte as a “very talented” player.

One year later, it looks like the 21-year-old has failed to live up to expectations at the Glaswegian outfit.

Nevertheless, it has turned out to be a good deal for the Gers, who will certainly make a hefty profit from his sale, and have already signed a replacement in Brentford loanee Jayden Meghoma.
