Meghoma paperwork race begins as Rangers need signature before Club Brugge showdown

Rangers have continued their summer transfer spree with the signing of Jayden Meghoma.

Meghoma has completed a loan move to Rangers from Brentford, becoming Russell Martin’s 10th signing since arriving in the summer.

Martin has suffered a stuttering start to the season, as Rangers struggled to defeat Alloa 4-2 last time out after two successive draws in the Scottish Premiership against Motherwell and Dundee.

Rangers take on Club Brugge in a crucial Champions League play-off next, with the first leg at Ibrox on Tuesday, but they’re in a race against time to have their new man in the squad.

Rangers await international clearance for Meghoma ahead of Brugge showdown

Meghoma could miss the tie against the Belgian side, with international clearance still yet to be received at Ibrox.

The Daily Record has reported in its print edition (18 August, page 42) that the Light Blues are still awaiting a signature on the left-back’s documents before he can be in the squad.

Rangers are hopeful that the paperwork will be signed off in time for Meghoma to face off against Club Brugge, as they look to reach the Champions League proper for the first time since 2022.

The former Brentford man has insisted it won’t take him long to click back into Martin’s style of play, having made his senior debut under the ex-Southampton manager.

Meghoma is a risk for Rangers

Rangers are taking a significant risk by putting their faith in Meghoma, but that shows how quickly he has settled into senior football.

The left back has made a rapid rise in English football, as his career timeline so far reads:

Martin has seen his young signings so far thrive at Ibrox, especially Djeidi Gassama with his brilliant start at Rangers, and will be hoping that Meghoma can become another young superstar in his ranks.
