‘Something has to change’ – Ferguson shares if Martin’s job already under threat at Rangers

Russell Martin hasn’t got off to the best start as Rangers manager.

The former Southampton boss has overseen two draws against Motherwell and Dundee in his first two league matches as manager.

This has left Rangers four points behind their bitter rivals Celtic, and some fans are already calling for Martin to be sacked.

Ferguson insists something has to change soon at Rangers

Martin has called for patience from the Rangers fans, but he’s unlikely to get that if they keep dropping points to teams with mid-table ambitions.

Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson believes that the Rangers board will give Martin time to fix the situation at Ibrox.

After all, he’s only taken charge of six games at this point.

However, in an exclusive interview with Ibrox News, he insisted that something had to change.

He said: “The owners brought him in so he’ll definitely be given time to get things right. He needed a good start to get the fans onboard and it’s not been a great start. Performances have been poor to say the least.

“While it’s all good having a certain style, you have to be able to get fans excited. Right now, there’s nothing.

“It’s slow and ponderous, while we’re conceding goals and not scoring many. Something has to change, otherwise the fans will grow in their discontent.”

Talk will prove cheap for Martin unless Rangers can deliver on pitch

Martin has hinted that there are internal problems at Rangers that will take time to fix.

This is probably a fair assessment, as the club has finished way behind Celtic in recent seasons.

However, the reality of the Rangers job is that you are expected to beat the so-called minnows of the Scottish league every time you play them.

However, that doesn’t hide the fact that he had more than enough quality to pick up comfortable wins against Motherwell and Dundee.

No matter what he may be dealing with behind the scenes, Martin had enough talent at his disposal to comfortably beat Motherwell and Dundee. He failed to do so.

Now, all he can do is try to turn things around in Rangers’ upcoming fixtures.

He’ll bank some extra credit with the fans if he can overcome Club Brugge to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League.

If he can get a positive result against Celtic on 31 August, all may be forgiven – at least in the short term.
