Russell Martin ‘should be deeply concerned’ if Nobel Mendy admission is anything to go by
Russell Martin has welcomed plenty of new faces through the door at Ibrox so far this summer.
Among the ten new arrivals, some look like fantastic pieces of business, like Djeidi Gassama, who has been in fine goalscoring form since his move north of the border.
While other additions, like Max Aarons, who appeared to be solid additions on paper, are still adapting to playing in G51.
However, Martin‘s recent comments regarding Gers’ transfer policy is set to leave supporters deeply concerned moving forward.

Martin has ‘no idea’ about new signing as concerning comments emerge
Despite being early into his tenure in charge at Rangers, Martin is already under pressure after a poor start to the Scottish Premiership campaign.
The Light Blues have had success in Europe in their Champions League qualifying fixtures, but this may not have been the case if Jack Butland had not been at his very best.
With more signings still set to arrive at Ibrox, Martin was asked ahead of Rangers’ Scottish League Cup tie with Alloa about Real Betis defender Nobel Mendy, who was expected to become the 49ers‘ latest signing for the Light Blues.
However, reports have since emerged on Saturday suggesting that deal is off.
“He doesn’t play for us, so I can’t tell you anything about the kid,” said Martin when asked about the 21-year-old Belgian.
“I’ve never spoken to him in my life. So yeah, I don’t really know. It’s true. I’m not kidding you on. I don’t know.
If this really is the case, then supporters can rightly question just how involved Martin is in the recruitment process at Ibrox.
For the manager not to have even spoken to a player supposedly on the brink of joining at the time is hard to believe, unless the 49ers are aiming to bring in players they feel add quality to the squad, whilst not catering to a specific manager.

Transfers could spell trouble for Martin
If this is the case, then Martin’s days in Glasgow could be numbered already, given his unique philosophy and style of play.
If transfers are brought in not catered to his style, then this could be dangerous as the former Southampton boss is known for being stubborn and not changing his tactical approach, even if it does not suit the players.
The upside to this strategy is that whoever the next Rangers boss is will likely inherit quality players that have not been brought in to suit a niche system that one particular manager wants to play.
