Reason revealed as Nobel Mendy transfer collapses at Rangers

Nobel Mendy will no longer join Rangers this summer.

Rangers had agreed a fee to sign Mendy, with a £2million spend ready to hand Russell Martin his tenth signing of the summer at Ibrox.

Mendy was set to undergo a medical in Barcelona, but he is instead set to remain in La Liga with Real Betis after a breakdown in negotiations.

Mendy transfer now at standstill for Rangers

Mendy remains in Spain for now, despite concrete progression previously.

Sebastien Denis has reported on 16 August that Rangers and Real Betis have failed to reach a full agreement for the transfer after further talks.

The defender is said to be in limbo with his future remaining uncertain, with a warning delivered to “watch this space” before the end of the deadline.

Nasser Djiga dilemma emerges at Rangers

Martin will be shaking his head at this transfer collapsing.

Nasser Djiga had started life well at Rangers, but it all came crumbling down when he was sent off in the 1-1 draw against Dundee at Ibrox.

With the next Scottish Premiership fixture at St Mirren now going ahead, he will miss that trip.

In the meantime, he has already featured at Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League and could start against Alloa in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday.

Emmanuel Fernandez will be preparing for his first competitive start against Alloa, and he could back that up with another outing at St Mirren.

With a huge Champions League final qualifying round tie against Club Brugge on the horizon, Djiga will likely play a big role for Martin.

The signing of Mendy on top of that would have seen the defensive strength improve massively to take on the Belgians, but it wasn’t meant to be.
