Rangers confidence grows over Jayden Meghoma amid new Ibrox transfer reveal

Rangers are a step closer to signing Brentford left-back Jayden Meghoma.

The Gers have already brought in nine new players, including the likes of Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez.

However, they look set to lose at least one left-back with Jefte reportedly agreeing terms with Palmeiras and Ridvan Yilmaz wanting to return to Besiktas.

Russell Martin may turn to Meghoma, whom he has worked with before at Southampton, if either departure is sanctioned at Ibrox.

Rangers details emerge as Meghoma chase hots up

Meghoma could be the answer for Rangers, with Jefte looking increasingly likely to leave Govan before the deadline.

Rangers Review’s Joshua Barrie has reported on 16 August that the Gers were in talks over a loan deal for the 19-year-old.

He stated that there is a growing confidence that an agreement can be reached with the Premier League club.

Who is Rangers’ target Meghoma?

The young defender came through the Tottenham academy before moving to Martin’s former side in 2023.

He made his senior debut for the Saints in a 3-1 loss to Gillingham in the EFL Cup in August 2023, and made three more appearances in the FA Cup.

A £10million move to Brentford followed in August 2024, and he made four appearances for the Premier League outfit, including his top-flight debut in a four-minute cameo against Chelsea.

Thomas Frank, the ex-Bees boss, really liked Meghoma and spoke after his signature was confirmed, saying: “Jayden is an England youth international and one of the biggest left-back talents this country has.”

He spent last season on loan at Preston North End in the second tier, where he made 14 appearances for the Lilywhites in all competitions.

Max Aarons has been forced to fill in on the left side of defence for the Light Blues, and it is safe to say that the experiment has not worked out.

Martin needs a solution, and he needs it quickly, and the England Under-18 international could be the right man to remedy the situation and help his ex-manager out of a jam.

It would certainly help that he has worked with the Gers boss before, as he would likely know what is required tactically and could thrive in the Scottish Premiership.
