Phillipe Clement ‘pulls off blinder’ for Russell Martin with Rangers transfer

Rangers received a parting gift from Phillipe Clement, and Russell Martin is taking full advantage of it at Ibrox.

The Scottish manager has had a rather fruitful start to the campaign in the UEFA Champions League, but Rangers’ domestic form has been disappointing.

Despite losing 2-1 to Viktoria Plzen at the Doosan Arena on Tuesday, 12 August, the Light Blues have qualified for the European competition’s play-off after winning the first leg 3-0.

While the Glaswegian outfit are already four points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, there’s still a long way to go, and the former Southampton Head Coach could have a new hero on his hands to turn the tide in G51.

Lyall Cameron an astute signing from Clement at Rangers

Clement wanted Lyall Cameron to join the Gers in the winter transfer window, but they were unable to agree on a deal.

Instead, the Light Blues agreed a pre-contract with the midfielder for his transfer this summer, and the Belgian manager would have arguably played a massive role in signing him.

Martin is now bearing the fruits of his predecessor at the Glaswegian outfit, with the former Dundee star impressing in his initial displays at Ibrox.

Cameron got on the scoresheet to equalise for the Gers against Plzen, but they were unable to get a positive result at the Doosan Arena after being overwhelmed by the hosts.

The Scottish youngster seems to have pipped the likes of Joe Rothwell and Nico Raskin in the Light Blues’ pecking order.

With the 22-year-old trusted by Martin at Ibrox, it will be interesting to see how he develops at the Glaswegian outfit in the coming months.

Ibrox faithful will be wary after what happened with Connor Barron

Cameron has shown immense potential at Ibrox in his first few appearances, but he will need to be consistent throughout the season.

Rangers fans had high hopes for Connor Barron after he burst onto the scene in the previous campaign, but he’s hardly had any minutes in recent months.

Martin also doesn’t seem to have faith in the ex-Aberdeen midfielder, and that will be worrying for the supporters in G51 as they may temper their expectations from Cameron.

For now, it looks like Clement pulled off a blinder for the Scottish manager to make the most of.
