Rangers player ratings v Dundee: Gassama shows promise, 3/10 absolutely dreadful

James Tavernier came off the bench to rescue a point for Rangers at home to Dundee.

The Light Blues failed to hit the ground running in their opening day clash against Motherwell, and that only piled more importance on a result against Dundee at Ibrox.

Rangers were without Mikey Moore once again, with the teenager still awaiting international clearance, though Russell Martin still had more than enough available to secure a comfortable result against Dundee.

With that said, there was nothing comfortable about the Ibrox clash at all, with Rangers second-best for the entire game, as showcased by the result.

Ryan Astley scored the opener visitors, as more misery was piled on the Gers, before Tavernier dispatched a late penalty to secure a 1-1 draw.

Djeidi Gassama can be a game-changer for the Gers

Djeidi Gassama has already impressed at Rangers, and while this was far from him at his best, he still caused a threat down that left-wing, and had it not been for an intervention from Cyriel Dessers, he could have registered an assist.

You can see the danger he possesses when on the ball, and it will be crucial for Rangers to find him in behind the opposition defence, which they failed to do very often against Dundee.

On one of the few occasions they did get him in behind, he won the penalty which secured a point for the Gers.

However, he needs more players to be on the same wavelength for his true potential to be unlocked, which certainly wasn’t the case today.

Moore was watching on at Ibrox, and Rangers need him available to give them a different option.

Dessers hopless vs Dundee FC

Dessers has showcased his worth to Rangers on several occasions, but when he’s not on his game, he is a total waste of a shirt.

The Rangers forward resembled a trampoline with his first touch, and generally just looked lost in attack at Ibrox today.

His link-up play was miles off the pace, and he failed to pose a threat to the Dundee backline throughout the clash.

Dessers isn’t blessed with pace, but his physical presence usually makes up for that, though that was far from the case at Ibrox.

While he did convert what appeared to be a late winner, the offside flag went up to cut the celebrations short.
