‘It’s quite clear’ – Cifuentes and Rangers teammate told they risk angering fans
Rangers have been enjoying a summer spending spree to remember.
Russell Martin has beefed up his squad with ten new players, and the transfer window isn’t even closed yet.
The Ibrox club now has several players unlikely to see first-team action this season, but selling them at reasonable prices isn’t proving to be easy.
This has led to fan anger at some players, who are now being accused of refusing to leave the club.

This article includes exclusive comment from former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson.
Cifuentes and Matondo urged to move on from Rangers
Jose Cifuentes and Rabbi Matondo are two players being accused of remaining at Ibrox despite being unwanted.
Cifuentes spent last season out on loan, but Rangers are now trying to get him off their wage bill for good.
Matondo was also loaned out to Hannover 96 last season, with Rangers now desperate to stop paying his ‘eye-watering wages’.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson urged these players to co-operate with the club.
He said: “The squad needs to be ripped up and these players are sitting on good wages – that’s why they’re not moving on and that’s where the frustration comes from from the Rangers fans.
“It’s quite clear they have no future at Ibrox and you’d hope their agents will be on the ball to find clubs.
“At the end of the day, you want to play football, but some guys maybe have that mindset. Why would they move for half the wages when their families are possibly settled?
“They want to make sure they get the best financial outcome. These guys have no future and would have been told that. The sooner they get new clubs, the better for everyone. And they’d all leave with the best wishes of fans; if they sit around and eat up wages then it’s different.”

Rangers recruitment policy coming back to haunt them
A lot of Rangers’ struggles in the Scottish Premiership comes from the poor recruitment decisions made at the start of this decade.
Many players signed on juicy contracts have proven to be not good enough to help Rangers challenge for the title.
Martin has been told that he’ll need to sell some players if he wants to continue building his dream squad, but he’s finding it difficult to move on his reserves due to their huge wages.
These includes the likes of:
- Cifuentes
- Matondo
- Ridvan Yilmaz
- Ben Davies
- And several more
Rangers can’t find other clubs willing to pay these players the wages they’re currently receiving at Ibrox.
And sadly, it’s not easy to convince contracted stars to leave your club if it means taking a pay cut.
It’s a big mess to clean up for Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, and it may take more than one transfer window to fix.
