Cyriel Dessers wows BBC Sportscene pundit after what he did for Djeidi Gassama in Rangers win
Cyriel Dessers caught the eye as Rangers secured a massive win against Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday.
The Nigeria international was on the scoresheet at Ibrox as the Gers secured a much-needed 3-0 Champions League qualification win on 5 August.
Djeidi Gassama was also on the scoresheet once again in blue, netting a brace to complete a dream night for the Govan club.
It was the work of Dessers to benefit the ex-Sheffield Wednesday winner, which were picked out on what was an excellent performance from the Light Blues.

Dessers link up with Gassama applauded
There are so many elements of success that can be picked out from the huge win against the Czech outfit.
This is especially the case after what was a hugely frustrating draw against Motherwell, one which sparked directed comments from Russell Martin.
The performance of Oliver Antman on his debut could be picked out, but it was the work of Dessers that Steven Thompson appreciated at Ibrox.
This came after the 30-year-old showcased his hold-up play to help Gassama open the scoring in what has already become trademark fashion.
The often scapegoated forward picked up the ball on the edge of the box before playing a cutting pass with the outside of his foot, before the winger finished with aplomb.
This excellent play was picked up by Thompson live on BBC Sportscene (5 August, 08:04pm) as he piled praise on the Nigerian.
He said: “Yes, it’s another brilliant goal from Gassama, but all you can do is praise Cyriel Dessers. It looks easy what he does, but as a striker, it’s invaluable.
“Dessers takes the ball in and chooses the right moment to hand it to Gassama, it’s brilliant striker play. It’s brilliant from Gassama, but a really important contribution from Cyriel Dessers.”
Dessers once again showcases Rangers worth
The man signed from Cremonese has long become a player who comes under criticism when things aren’t going well in G51.
This has recently seen calls come in to suggest that Danilo should be starting for Rangers ahead of Dessers on a weekly basis.
Despite the 35 goal involvements of the number nine last season, many don’t appreciate what he can add to Martin’s side, as showcased against Plzen.
- Dessers scored 29 goals for Rangers in all competitions last year
- This was added to by six assists, with four coming in the Scottish Premiership and Europa League
- Now, the 30-year-old has 51 goals and 13 assists to his name at Ibrox
It will certainly be interesting to see what this means for his future in Govan, especially if he can continue an excellent link-up with Gassama, Antman and Co.
