Clement Turpin got it wrong after Nicolas Raskin incident v Viktoria Plzen – Keith Hackett
Rangers had another night to remember on Tuesday as they easily overcame Viktoria Plzen with a 3-0 win.
The Gers battered the Czech side to give themselves a great chance of progressing into the playoff round of the Champions League.
Multiple players impressed at Ibrox, with Oliver Antman standing out against Viktoria Plzen.
However, one star who had a moment to forget for Nico Raskin, who didn’t even start the match.

Ibrox News presents the exclusive opinion of former Premier League and FIFA-listed referee Keith Hackett.
Hackett disagrees with Raskin yellow card v Viktoria Plzen
Going into the match, Raskin was in the headlines after the midfielder was dropped against Viktoria Plzen.
Martin previously ranted about some of the Rangers players’ attitudes after the 1-1 draw against Motherwell, which resulted in the four changes to the starting lineup.
However, Raskin still managed to get involved in the match, with the midfielder being booked for interfering with play 30 minutes in.
The 24-year-old appeared to approach Sampson Dweh as he prepared to take a throw-in.
As a result, referee Clement Turpin proceeded to book the Rangers star despite his protests.
- Rangers face Viktoria Plzen for the second leg next week
- If the Gers progress, they will face either FC Salzburg or Club Brugge in the playoff round
- If Rangers win the tie, they will progress into the league phase
Looking back on the incident, Hackett disagreed with the official’s decision, believing a yellow card was “cheap”.
He exclusively told Ibrox News: “I do think that part of the referee’s management and application of the laws of the game is to be proactive.
“In this situation, a short blast on the whistle and an indication for the sub to move away should have been the approach
“The substitute’s action did not impact the thrower, and neither did I see and dissent before the yellow card was issued.
“A ‘Cheap’ yellow card, and I suggest that the referee requires some operational advice.”

Raskin yellow card could cost Rangers
The issue with Raskin’s yellow card is that the midfielder is now just one match away from a suspension.
The midfielder also picked up a yellow in the 2-0 victory over Panathinaikos, and it takes three to pick up a one-match ban.
Therefore, with the playoffs on the horizon, the referee’s decision could prove to be extremely costly in the future.
Hopefully, Raskin is able to avoid another booking until after the playoffs.
