Dele Alli to Rangers transfer shocker as Jeff Stelling shares swift verdict
Rangers have already completed a wealth of business this summer, but more additions are expected.
Djeidi Gassama has made the biggest Rangers impact, having scored in both Champions League games against Panathinaikos.
Over in Italy, Dele Alli is no longer part of Como’s plans and is expected to find a new challenge this summer.
Ally McCoist once said he would have Dele at Rangers, and now Jeff Stelling has had his say on Ibrox links.

Stelling addresses shock Dele Alli to Rangers links
Rangers face Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League as they strive to progress past the third round of qualifying.
While Russell Martin made an emphatic start in Europe, the Gers struggled against Motherwell in their Scottish Premiership opener.
The Gers’ boss was scathing of some of his players, although he did not specifically name any of them.
However, the Bears need more players through the door if they are to get anywhere near Celtic this season.
Dele has endured a turbulent time since departing Tottenham, with spells at Everton and Besiktas before joining Como.
Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Everton | 13 | 0 | 0 |
Besiktas | 15 | 3 | 0 |
Como | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Now, Stelling has delivered his verdict on an Ibrox move for Dele on talkSPORT (5 July, 8:09am) after reports of a possible move to Glasgow.
Asked as part of the ‘Transfer Tinder’ segment of the show if he thinks Dele to Rangers is a good move, Stelling swiftly replied: “It depends what the contract is. If it’s sort of appearance-related, something like that, yeah, nothing to lose in that sense.
“But unfortunately, and I feel for him, unfortunately, his track record in recent times is diabolical, so you are not going to fork out good money with no guarantee that you’re going to get games from Dele at all.
“If it’s a contract that stipulates pay as you play, then that’s a completely different matter. We all remember what a fantastic player he was.”
Would Dele be worth Ibrox gamble?
While at the moment they are just reports, it begs the question whether the Bears should take a gamble on Dele.
The 29-year-old thrived at Tottenham and was one of England’s brightest talents, making an impact at the World Cup.
However, his career has spiralled amid personal issues, and he has not been able to rediscover his once prolific form.
- Dele was an England regular while at Tottenham
- Fell out of favour and moved to Everton
- He has since struggled abroad with Besiktas and Como
Of course, any club would love to be the one to revive Dele, but doing that seems a near-impossible task.
The midfielder made one appearance for Como last season and received a straight red card against AC Milan.
Dele would represent a risk for Martin, but an appearance-related deal could work for both parties.
