Rangers already have Cyriel Dessers transfer answer after Ibrox bid

Cyriel Dessers could potentially be affected at Rangers this transfer window.

AEK Athens want the Nigeria international, but the Greek outfit have struggled to find a financial agreement with the Gers.

Dessers has consistently been linked with an Ibrox exit in recent weeks, and the Light Blues have an opportunity to cash in on him.

The 30-year-old often frustrates fans due to his inconsistency and arguably won’t be bothered by his exit, but Russell Martin may have other plans.

Dessers stands out in Rangers draw v Motherwell

Dessers was the only player Martin was pleased with as the Gers drew 1-1 against Motherwell on Saturday.

The Light Blues dropped two points at Fir Park in the Scottish Premiership on 2 August, leaving the former Southampton boss fuming.

Martin admitted that the Glaswegian outfit have received a bid for the Nigerian centre-forward at Ibrox, but the 39-year-old could potentially block his sale after his display in North Lanarkshire.

Speaking on Sky Sports (2 August), the Gers manager said: “Dessers is the only one that we’ve actually had a bid for, and he comes on and he runs so hard. Some of them need to have a look at him and set that example.

“There will be people left behind if they don’t want to come. They’ll be left behind because they need to understand really what playing for this football club will take and what it means, and not just when it’s having a nice time.”

What changes should Martin make after Fir Park performance?

Danilo didn’t convince many during the Motherwell draw, and Martin should look at tweaking his attack for the upcoming matches.

Dessers replaced the Brazil national at around the hour mark, and the Nigeria international may have played himself into the starting lineup.

Max Aarons finally looked comfortable playing at left-back, but Jack Butland and the backline couldn’t keep the Steelmen from scoring despite some good performances.

Rangers should move on from Kieran Dowell after another underwhelming display, but it looks like the Scottish manager trusts him.

The Gers have shown they’re capable of beating tough opponents after getting past Panathinaikos in the Champions League’s second qualifying round.

Domestic inconsistency was a significant issue for the Light Blues last season, though, and Martin has to make sure what was seen against Motherwell was just a blip.
