‘It would change everything’ – Vardy tipped to completely transform Rangers

Rangers still look short of firepower despite Russell Martin’s recruiting several new players over the summer.

The new Rangers boss has some smart additions to his midfield and defence, but has been relying on Danilo as his first-choice striker.

The Brazilian has offered little threat during Rangers’ opening games of the season, while Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane have been linked with moves away from Ibrox.

Martin has brought in 17-year-old forward Mikey Moore on loan from Spurs, but he seems unlikely to rely on a teenager to carry his attack.

So, it seems as if recruiting a new striker could now be his priority before the transfer window closes.

Vardy signing ‘would change everything’, says Robertson

Rangers had been linked with a move for Jamie Vardy earlier in the summer, although it’s believed they face competition from Leeds United and Wrexham.

The former England striker is now 38 years old, but he’s a free agent after being released by Leicester City.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, former Rangers defender David Robertson claimed that Vardy would thrive spending the final years of his career in Scotland.

“I think he would run riot in Scotland, to be honest. I think the whole club, it would change everything,” Robertson said.

“He’s still got the pace about him. No offence to the other teams in Scotland, he would cause them so many problems because he plays on the shoulder and runs in behind. If Rangers played a little more direct with Vardy, he would make that difference.

“It depends on what he wants in his career. If he wants to prolong his career, he could come and play in Scotland and be very effective for another two or three years up here.”

Dessers and Igamane ‘won’t be sold until Rangers can find replacements’

Dessers scored 21 goals for Rangers last season, while Igamane helped himself to 16 goals, yet it seems Martin is happy to move both players on.

Both players have been linked with other clubs throughout the summer, yet the season has started and both remain in Glasgow.

Robertson predicted that neither player would leave until Martin recruits suitable replacements.

He said: “I think modern day strikers are very difficult to get. I don’t think they can get rid of those two until they bring players, which I think might be more difficult than Russell Martin imagined.

“In my day, the Gazzas, Hateley’s and Laudrups all came to Rangers, whereas that’s not quite the same now.”

The transfer window closes on 1 September, but Rangers have a string of important games to play before then.

In August, they have to play:

So, it would likely be in Martin’s best interests to recruit a new striker as quickly as possible.
